Jamel & Daisy

Meet Daisy, a 14-year-old Terrier mix loved by her dad, Jamel. Just like most of the pet owners the teams at Project Street Vet encounter, when we met Daisy and Jamel we could see the undeniable human-animal bond between them.

The Project Street Vet Team in Los Angeles met Daisy and Jamel at a free pet clinic hosted at the Multi-Service Center in Long Beach, which helps those experiencing homelessness with various services. When it was Daisy’s turn to be examined, our volunteer veterinarian Dr. Katarina Yi noticed some eye issues, likely due to aging, that Jamel stated had been bothering Daisy for some time. Although we did not have the tests and medication Daisy needed on hand that day, our team was determined to help Daisy get the treatment she needed. Thanks to a grant from Grey Muzzle Organization, the team at Project Street Vet was able to refer Daisy and Jamel to a nearby pet hospital for some eye testing and ultimately the proper prescription medication to help ease Daisy’s uncomfortable eye issues.

Just a few days after Daisy’s new medication regimen, Jamel shared this update with our team: “My name is Jamel and my best friends name is Daisy (dog) you guys volunteered, came out to the multi service center last week and showed us all (homeless) men & women how much you guys really cared about our animals and their health, with your program called (Project Street Vet). well not only did you guys stay a lot longer than you anticipated that day but some of you guys took it upon yourselves to go the extra mile and followed up on some of the special needs of some of the individual pets and their owners to get subscriptions filled. with that said I would like to personally like to thank each and every one of you guys for first volunteering your time and service into helping us all in need of special help we could not otherwise get under the circumstances.... All is well with daisy & I, so we thought we would send you guys a progress report letting you know how much the medication is helping Daisy eyes heal very well, not to mention her attitude of depression became contagious moping around sad both of us not generating positive energy. I wish you guys could see the life that has given us hope of healing for the future..None of this could have been possible without you guys caring and generous awesome hearts &  downright humanity for your fellow man and their  pet buddy's We are taking all the medication just as Dr prescribed them ..With that said thank you .. God bless you guys.”

A huge thanks to Grey Muzzle for supporting care for beloved senior dogs like Daisy!
