Jay and Enso

Enso, a 7-year-old Pit Bull mix, is the beloved companion of his dad, Jay. When Jay reached out to Project Street Vet, he was concerned about a possible ear infection and a large mass near Enso’s rectum. As Enso is also Jay’s emotional support animal and an important part of his family, Jay desperately wanted answers and to make sure his best friend was okay.

At the time, Jay was already navigating significant challenges while working through a VA program to secure housing for himself and his 10-year-old son. Even with so much on his plate, Enso’s health remained one of his greatest concerns.

After learning about Jay and Enso’s situation, the Project Street Vet team stepped in through our Veterinary Case Management Program, which helps qualifying pet parents access veterinary care for their companions.

Jay and Enso were referred to Primary Care Animal Hospital, a trusted Project Street Vet veterinary partner. During Enso’s examination, the veterinary team discovered a very large mass near his rectum which had grown rapidly. The size and location of the mass were significantly affecting Enso’s quality of life, making it difficult for him to walk and go to the bathroom comfortably.

The veterinarian recommended surgery to remove the mass and a biopsy to determine whether it was cancerous. Thankfully, the results brought incredible news: the mass was a benign adenoma and had been completely removed. Enso’s tumor was not cancerous, and the surgery was expected to be curative.

Thanks to our generous supporters, Project Street Vet was able to help Enso receive the surgery he urgently needed, giving him the chance to return to a healthier and more comfortable life.

Following Enso’s veterinary care, Jay shared what that support meant to his family:

“You have no idea how this will massively, positively affect not only Enso, but my 10-year-old son and me. He and Enso are connected at the soul. He feels so deeply, and Enso’s condition hurts him deeply, and he has been through so much. I used to be very well off financially, and after significant illness and trauma, I lost everything. I can't tell you how much you have impacted our lives.”

Two weeks after his procedure, Enso was recovering well. Dr. Robbins shared an update that said it all: “Enso is healing well and very happy!”
